Play | Creating a 19th century daguerreotype photograph

In this post I will give a short introduction to daguerreotype photography and show how I recreated that characteristic look to produce this totally smashing 'daguerreotype' of me:

About this blog

This is a blog about work and play. Specifically, my job, which is working on my PhD thesis, and one of my hobbies, which is tinkering with graphic design.

The former involves a whole lot of historical letters from Irish emigrants and what they (the letters) can tell us about Irish English phonology, the latter involves mostly Photoshop, occasionally InDesign and seldomly Illustrator (although I aim to do something about that).

You may think that the combination historical linguistics and graphic design is unusual, but studies have shown [citation needed] that most people find both topics very interesting and/or useful.
